The Matterhorn, Zermatt
Switzerland's monument mountain
The Matterhorn, Switzerland’s magical mountain was first conquered by the British adventurer Edward Whymper in 1865. This first climb of the 4478 m high mountain ended with a drama, four of the climbers fell to their death on the descent.
Zermatt, the village just below the Matterhorn, is one of Switzerland’s leading resorts in the summer for mountaineering and in the winter for skiing. Fine hotels and restaurants for all tastes are available and with the right advice you get one of the best experiences in the mountains available today.
.
Zermatt remains innovative and Daniel and Seraina Lauber’s “Hotel Cervo” was nominated Swiss Hotel of the year 2014 by the Sonntagszeitung and Mr. Heinz Julen’s “Backstage Hotel” is like a piece of art in the middle of the village. The Seiler family that invented tourism in Zermatt 150 years ago regained management of the Seiler Hotels with their flagship Leading hotel of the World “The Mont Cervin”.
Zermatt is also the starting point of the famous Glacier Express, the train that connects Zermatt with St. Moritz with a seven hour train ride over fabulous constructions with admirable sequences of bridges and tunnels through and over the mountain passes.
