The Northern Lights
Skandinavia, Alaska, Russia
"As if from Heaven itself, great curtains of delicate light hung and trembled. Pale green and rose-pink, and as transparent as the most fragile fabric..." Phillip Pullman
The Northern lights are without a doubt one of the most spectacular natural phenomena to witness. Like a nocturnal sunset, an extraterrestrial happening, and a magnificent light show performed by Mother Nature all at once. The best time to experience this is in winter/early spring and late autumn. The Northern Lights oval, meaning the area with the highest probability, covers Iceland and Northern Norway, the northernmost areas of Sweden and Finland, the western half of the Russian north, as well as most of Alaska, northern parts of Canada and the southern half of Greenland. All these regions offer more than the viewing of the Northern lights - wildlife safaris, dog-sledding and ice-hotels are among other activities, so come ask us!
