Saanenland

Gstaad, Switzerland

Saanenland

Gstaad, Switzerland

Enter the world of tradition and comfort, a cozy and luxurious retreat in the Swiss Alp. The legend says, God wanted to take a little break and rest for a while from creating the world and doing so, he left the imprint of his hand in the Saanenland and shaped with his five fingers the valleys, that are coming together in Gstaad as it's center. It is not hard to believe that supernatural forces were at work when your eyes wander over the phenomenal beauty and purity of its nature.

The altitude of the regions villages is between 1000 and 1400 meter above sea-level. Located at the language border, the region is bilingual which is just one other side of its fascinating variety. The Saannenland has over 150 farms, 80 of which still use Alpine pastures and around 7000 cows in the region. Traditions and authenticity are very important to it's locals as well as for it's loyal visitors. The Gstaad experience today is a mix of stylish charm, discreet understated luxury and rural authenticity which Gstaad's famous royal guests and visitors from the worlds of film, art, sport and science have come to appreciate. Yet despite its style and class, Gstaad has remained genuinely Alpine and down-to-earth and attracts also traditional family tourism. This is what charms the region, the mix of the international jet set and any other wanderers who enjoy the exact same things, the breathtaking beauty of nature in this mountain wonderland. Luxury is enjoying the richness in simplicity and this is what the Saanenländer hospitality is known for since over 100 years.

The Saanenland region historically belonged to the Savoyard county of Gruyère, which castle is located only a 40 minutes drive away. La Gruyere is also home to the world famous Gruyere Cheese. Fondue, Raclette or Rösti have to be tasted in one of the many gourmet restaurants in the area. With the right advice you will dine and wine bringing your senses to culinary heaven.

Leaving the Saanenland with the Golden Pass Panoramic train ends a perfect journey in the Swiss alps enjoying a last glance over the fairy like landscape.
