Village Life in Guizhou
China
Despite being a considerably poorer area of China, the province of Guizhou is definitely worth a visit, especially for active travellers. Its countryside is composed of dense forest, cascading waterfalls, terraced hills and karst cave networks. The mountains, dotted with traditional wooden Miao homes, perched at dubious angles. Add to this numerous and diverse ethnic minorities such as the Miao, Dong, Yao, Shui, Buyi, and Tujia.
Hike through a scenic backdrop of rice terrace fields and ancient villages along clear streams; a Champagne picnic awaits you among the terraces. You can also opt for visiting a embroidery workshop in the Miao town of Sankeshu.
A couple of days later we’ll take you to Zhouguan village, an insulated community of “Lao Han” who are able to trace their exact family lineage back to the Ming dynasty over 600 years ago. Enjoy a private Dixi (Ground Opera Performance), originally invented by stationed warriors as a means of passing time and relieving homesickness.
